Social Studies Reflection The chapter in World History that I enjoyed most was Ancient Greece. I liked that because I have read some books about the Greek gods (even thought they’re fiction), and this unit added a little more to my knowledge. Also, I had some background knowledge about the gods and goddesses, like who they were and what they were god/goddess of. Also, I liked learning about Ancient Mesopotamia. I liked learning about that, because I liked knowing about one of the first “countries” at that time.
Some of the things that I learned about Ancient Greece are that the people settled near the Aegean Sea, Ionian Sea, and Mediterranean Sea. The Greeks were polytheistic, which means that they worshipped more than one god/goddess. Some of the things that I learned about Ancient Mesopotamia were that Uruk was one of the first civilizations to form. Also, I learned that the Mesopotamians were polytheistic. They built huge temples called ziggurats to honor their gods.
Some new skills that I learned throughout the year were to label a map. Also, I learned to make a key and scale of miles. I learned how to take notes. Instead of getting study guides like we had last year, we had to take notes about all of our lessons. Most of the time, these were on the test. I learned how to make a timeline using a timeline program on the computer.
I can apply this knowledge to the real world. I can do that by using my knowledge of anicent worlds (Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, etc.) if I want to be an archeologist. If I do become an archeologist and discover some type of ancient dwelling or something of that sort, I could figure out which ancient civilization it belonged to and know some background information about that civilization.
